Steak Dinner (Ethan Hertz)

I walked into Crackle Barrel to enjoy a country fried steak.  This made me reflect on how I prepare rib eye steaks at home.  Right before grilling the steak, I take an onion and cut it in half. After that, I take one half of the onion and stick a fork in it with the flat cut side facing away from the fork.  I dip the onion in olive oil and use it to cover the steak with oil each time I flip it, so the steak retains its moisture and tenderness. For a side to the cooked steak, I would have cinnamon apples and corn.  Considering all these foods have gone through to be distributed to the old and new world they should be prepared right.

The majority of these specific foods came from the old world.  For example steak comes from cattle and cattle were brought to the Americas by Europeans during the Columbian Exchange, the original trading during the development of colonies and the discovery of the Americas. Onions come from China, part of the old world, and olives also come from the old world. Cinnamon and apples also come from the old world. Maize, or corn, came from the new world and quickly became a staple product around the world.  All this food was distributed around the world and ended up on my table.
