A Mug of History

A Mug of History

A few days ago I encountered one of the most delicious mugs of coffee. The coffee contained a perfect composition of bitterness and sweetness with a little bit of funky. The coffee shop was small and was located on the corner of Peachtree Street and Peachtree Road. I asked the barista what made the coffee unique and delicious and her response was love <3, which was by far cliché. The coffee was unusual to my taste buds. I am used to my common white girl Frappuccino from Starbucks, but this was better. As I continued to interrogate the barista, she finally gave me the recipe. The recipe included

·         Coffee

·         Sugar

·         Milk

·         Some secret ingredient

As I pondered the origin it finally hit me, just like the boiling coffee I just spilled on myself #fml. The sugar, milk (#cows)(#moo), and coffee all came from the old world to the new world in the Colombian exchange. Coffee first originated in Ethiopia but traveled across the ocean to South America, where it is currently the most popular. This mug of coffee and history gave me a new perspective on the sources of my favorite thing in the world, COFFEE. This place is now my favorite coffee joint and the location of all of the upcoming AP World History study sessions with my friends.

Love your coffee expert,

Adi Levy
